Note: During a thunderstorm on 20th August the station datalogger ceased to record rainfall and dry bulb temperature readings. Although the automatic rain gauge and dry bulb temperature sensor (in Stevenson Screen) are in relatively close proximity it is not known whether the effects of lightning were responsible for this failure. In the circumstances, rainfall from the standard MK 1A rain gauge has been substituted and rainfall intensity and duration estimated from observation for the purposes of this hyetogram. The problem was overcome by resetting the system and in the event only a small amount of data was lost.
