| The very wet August (the wettest in Royston since 1912) considerably disrupted the grain harvest in the Royston area although this wheat field at Poorsland mid-way between Royston and Barley fared better than most and was harvested relatively early. This view from close to the B1039 Royston to Saffron Walden road is looking northwards to Hyde Hill in the distance. At the time of the photograph (0750 GMT on 1st September 2010) the temperature was 13.3°C and only a light NNW breeze of mean speed 1 knot gusting to 3 knots was in evidence. This day was one of the best in September with a maximum temperature of 22.0°C and 12.4 hours sunshine (making it the sunniest day of the month). | This consignment of bio-solids for agriculture (as seen on 21st September 2010 at 0808 GMT) has recently been delivered to a field bordering the B1039 Royston to Saffron Walden road not far from Royston and stands in a neat pile ready for spreading on the land. This process commenced soon after, and over half the bales pictured had been distributed on a nearby acreage within a few days. The temperature at this time was 13.3°C in a very light air from the SSW. The early morning sunshine in evidence in the picture heralded a fine day with 8.9 hours sunshine and a maximum temperature of 21.7°C. This sunshine value was well above the daily average this September of just over 4 hours in a rather dull month. | The dull and foggy conditions in the morning of 27th September 2010 hardly detracted from the bright displays of flowers here seen on the Town Hall roundabout close to the centre of Royston, and in the nearby Priory Memorial Gardens. The Council's contractor responsible for these displays has also maintained throughout the Summer a fine array of hanging baskets around the town, several of which can be seen in the centre of the picture on the Town Hall itself. The barely discernible yellow container affixed to the front of the Town Hall just below one of these baskets is a French post box given to Royston by the town of La Loupe in France under the town twinning arrangements. This view looks westwards along Melbourn Street past the Health Centre and Police Station. |
